It's a challenge for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a team that has achieved everything.

It needed as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their batters to hold a record if not afforded the opportunity.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to produce her newest gem.

Then best known as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory arrived three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "motivated us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not come up short.

If this recent magnificent innings surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the case for the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this knock was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it's been a challenging time because it seemed my form was missing completely," commented Healy.

"However when you take the field, your competitive instincts take over and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's fighting spirit has continuously been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in every game, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from that point the batsman was on her way.

"A chance to go out there and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at the World Cup - and her hundred in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

By the time she was dismissed the team needed 66 more at run per delivery - a manageable total now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the assurance to accomplish that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, if we do, we are confident we can succeed."

Those words will be the last competing nations at this tournament need to hear.

In recent days a belief they will win from any position has become more firm - this victory succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at an important competition.

So great is her will, she later said she wished she had played with the discomfort.

But while she afterwards confessed those physical issues have postponed consideration of ending her career, this World Cup is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as skipper.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
